The Regional emergency Medical Center is intended to treat severe emergency patients professionally and systematically 24 hours a day. At the national level, the government divided provinces, cities, and counties into 41 regions and designated one hospital that can play a pivotal role as an emergency medical care and a disaster center in the divided area.
Designated as a regional emergency medical center in the Gyeongbuk East Coast Area in July 2017 by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Emergency Medical Center in the hospital has played a pivotal role in performing final treatment of severe emergency patients and in reinforcing a regional based emergency medical system, including Pohang, Gyeongju, Youngdeok, Uljin, and Ulleung areas. In the event of a major disaster, the hospital will form a disaster medical team (DMAT) and run a field emergency clinic at the disaster site, conducting disaster relief and medical activities with emergency disaster vehicles.
